The classic approach at Jodogahama is to place the white rhyolite rocks in the foreground and let the contrast between the emerald sea and blue sky take center stage. Morning light pours directly into this east-facing bay, drawing out the water's transparency and the brilliant whiteness of the rocks at their best. For a dynamic sense of depth, get close to the rocks with a wide-angle lens (16–24mm); alternatively, shoot from the walking trail overlooking the bay with a standard-to-short telephoto (50–85mm) to compress pines, rocks, and sea into a unified composition. Summer brings an intensely vivid blue to the water, while autumn sharpens the contrast between green pines and white rock. Timing your visit around low tide, when the rocks are most exposed, opens up a wide variety of foreground options.

Overview
The crown jewel of the Sanriku Coast, where gleaming white rhyolite rocks, pine trees, and emerald-green waters come together in breathtaking harmony. True to its name, the scenery evokes a vision of paradise.
History & Culture
This coastline was shaped by ancient volcanic activity that formed its distinctive rhyolite formations. The name — meaning "Pure Land" or paradise — is said to have originated when an Edo-period Buddhist monk described the view as "like the Pure Land of Amida Buddha." Today it is one of the iconic landscapes of Sanriku Fukkō National Park.
