During peak blossom season, the classic shot from inside the main bailey uses a wide-angle lens (16–24mm) looking up to frame the red-tiled tower together with the cherry trees. For a cherry-blossom-framed composition, bring a branch prominently into the foreground to add depth and perspective. Aim for early morning when the light is soft and colors are richest. In winter, head out right after a snowfall for a striking contrast between the snow-white castle walls and the red roof tiles. Just before dusk, warm raking light bathes the tower and accentuates the shadows on the stone walls — switch to a standard-to-medium telephoto (50–135mm) to isolate the details and capture an image that resonates with the castle's storied history.

Overview
A legendary castle that withstood a month-long siege during the Boshin War. It is home to Japan's only castle tower with distinctive red roof tiles, and transforms beautifully with the seasons — roughly 1,000 cherry trees in spring and a stunning snow-draped silhouette in winter.
History & Culture
Originally built by the Ashina clan in 1384, the castle became a symbol of the Aizu domain in the late Edo period and is closely associated with the tragic story of the Byakkotai (White Tiger Corps). The main tower was reconstructed in 1965 and restored to its historical red roof tiles in 2011.
